The Gilmore School consists of an addition to and significant renovations of an underutilized former public-school building.
part of the addition, aligning with the basement of the existing building.
Centrally located within walking distance from basic services and public transportation, the Gilmore School’s location reduces the need for automobile use. Community access to the new Library, Gymnasium, and Performing Arts Center provides a public amenity for the neighborhood reducing the need for further land development. A new Photovoltaic System produces on-site renewable energy reducing the facility’s annual energy cost. Educational tools such as a monitor that displays the facility’s energy consumption educates students, teachers, and the community as to the energy and water conservation employed within the facility.
The addition includes a 288-seat theater, gymnasium, cafeteria with a full-service kitchen, media center, administrative spaces, classrooms, and greenhouse with rooftop growing area. The entire facility is wired with state of the art information technology and communications systems.
Improvements to the site include a new synthetic turf play area, site landscaping, fencing, paved plazas, walkaways, benches, and playground which require low maintenance and avoid additional air born pollutants to the environment.
The Gilmore School has achieved a LEED Gold Level Designation.
