Meadowlark School serves learners in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. It was designed to pursue the District’s goals of being Net Zero Energy Use-ready and embody its progressive strategic plan, “The Success Effect.”
Community meetings started early so insight from stakeholders was included from the beginning. The Design Advisory Team included community members who gave input and helped the design align with project goals. They emphasized the community’s outdoor lifestyle and advocated for spaces to gather, which became the central Heart and Amphitheater.
Meadowlark supports innovative education and multiple learning styles in a high performing, sustainable building. Two-story Learning Communities extend from the Heart and are arranged to enable flexible groupings as educational philosophies evolve. Each Community includes paired Learning Studios, two Commons, Staff Collaboration and Small Group rooms, and two Flex Studios. Visibility, connection, flexibility, and security were formative themes. The Curiosity Center (library) opens to the Heart above the Learning Stair.
Meadowlark is the result of truly integrated design. Decisions were informed by the District’s new professional development program for teachers. The facility required an intensive and highly collaborative effort by all team members, including the District, Town, and Contractor, to complete the project in the accelerated timeline required.
