Manor New Tech Middle School is a PBL demonstration school that reflects the values and direction of the Manor community through a setting inspired by contemporary, high-tech work spaces. One of the only schools designed from the beginning with the New Tech model in mind, the building provides a variety of learning spaces to accommodate group sizes and activities ranging from quiet solo study to loud group work. The school also completes Manor Independent School District’s vertically-aligned PBL curriculum at all grade levels K-12.
The three-story building features an open, transparent, and flexible plan centered around a central hub. Tailored to meet the evolving needs of each individual student, the design promotes instructional adaptability and learning at different scales, providing a wide range of educational opportunities. Building orientation and a skylight bring daylight into all academic and lab spaces, connecting students and teachers to the natural environment while reducing energy use.
The design encourages interaction through access to resources that allow students to choose the type of space, furniture, and tools that best suit their individual learning style and ability to complete their tasks, while a one-to-one device program enables access to digital learning tools for all students.
