This new technologically advanced STEAM building initiates District Standard Educational Specifications for: Robotics, Media Production, a new high-tech Shop, and a multidisciplinary Collaboration Room for campus/community partnerships. We have actively collaborated with instructors, the District, students, and the community to develop program documents and a design solution that meets CHPS Certified requirements and establishes a new model for future District-wide STEAM programs. The Robotics Lab supports the U.S. National Championship High School Robotics team, with indoor and outdoor maker-spaces and individual team rooms. The Media Lab provides introductions to the Los Angeles entertainment and movie scene with a full white CYC wall, lighting grid, editing stations and equipment storage. The high-tech shop supports both Robotics and Media production with new state-of-the-art Shop equipment to fabricate component parts, props, and scenery. The Collaboration Room is centrally located, and accommodates cross-curriculum integration with education and business to discover new opportunities to integrate town and gown, and to support internship programs. As a new center of activity on campus, this project-based learning environment is a catalyst for heightened student performance. This new District prototype represents a commitment to future curriculum delivery innovation in a progressive instructional environment.
