This bird’s eye view demonstrates how the building tucks into the hillside, and the overall site planning concept.
The first floor plan centers on a two-story spine and contains an array of large, flexible learning environments and laboratories
On the second floor, the central spine opens to the terrace and views back to the main campus.
Axonometric views of the plans tell the 3 dimensional relationship between the learning environments and public spaces.
Combining traditional and modern materials, modern interpretations of pavilions, colonnades, and gardens set the tone for future developments in this area of the campus.
Celebrating transparency and the activities within, the building becomes a literal beacon at the edge of campus in the evening.
Team rooms, light shelves, and vestibules filter daylight into the central spine, connecting layers of activity in a manner which brings the community together.
A recycled and reclaimed wood feature wall highlights the main entrances and interconnecting stair in the east side of building.
On the lower level, the spine connects quiet areas for individualized study, team rooms for collaborative learning, and break-out spaces for socializing.
The physical therapy teaching suite includes an operable wall that facilitates transitions from didactic to hands-on learning, simultaneously providing space for hosting community events.
With the operable wall closed, the classroom serves as a physical therapy lab. Storage provided along the edge easily allows transitions to other uses.
The human performance lab includes a multi-camera motion capture system, force plates for gait analysis, and integrated lecture areas with whiteboards and projection capabilities.
The exercise physiology lab offers stunning views of the campus and includes an array of specialized equipment. Mobile furnishings facilitate analysis, instruction, and informal work-sessions.
Blurring the lines between interior and exterior spaces, wood clad team “pods” form the separation between the terrace and the upper spine.
Connected to the interior food/beverage area with operable windows, the terrace supports public functions and social interaction outside of the classroom.

The Jeanne and Edward H. Arnold Health Professions Pavilion at Lebanon Valley College provides a balance of technically advanced learning environments, informal meeting areas, and private areas designed to give students the resources they need to be productive both inside and outside of the classroom. The Pavilion hosts Health Science programs ranging from physical therapy, to athletic training, exercise science and kinesiology.

Located on the northern edge of campus, the Pavilion stands as a new icon on campus. The design serves to establish a northern campus gateway that also marks the end of a new pedestrian spine.

Working closely with the College, Stantec developed an optimized building program and evaluated the impact of enrollment growth and new curricula against health sciences laboratory and classroom demands. The result? A design that promotes spontaneous interaction, supports individualized learning, and allows ample natural light to flow throughout the space.

Learning commons are dispersed throughout the facility, offering formal spaces for quiet study, team rooms for collaborative learning, and breakout spaces for socializing. The pavilion also features flexible classroom space, observation rooms, human performance and gross anatomy labs, flexible faculty office space to increase collaboration with students, and new technologies that enhance teaching.
