As the sister school to H.O. Brittingham, Rehoboth Elementary is the third replication of the Love Creek floor plan. Tetra Tech was tasked with creating a unique and adaptable landscape for learning within the traditional and stagnant environment of a school. With this, we knew every space needed to be able to perform more than one programmatic function to maximize the floor plan and maintain a constrained budget. Thus, wings, classrooms, furniture, and even corridors had to become flexible learning spaces for both the students and faculty.
To design an effective and holistic environment, the building incorporates a finish and graphics package reflecting the natural characteristics of the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, located just down the street from the school. Both the community and school board felt strongly that the school should feel timeless yet rooted in its community. This request was implemented through a neutral finish palette using a system of layering and gradating vibrant colors and textures associated with “summer at the beach” along with striking wall graphics unique to the school. By paying close attention to detail, we’re able to create an exciting learning environment where young individuals can grow and learn.
