The long-term relationship between the architect and Western Golf Association led to the opportunity to provide Evans Scholars Foundation with a new, state-of-the-art housing solution at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. The timeless design—including brick and cast stone details compatible with the area’s historic Greek Row structures—appeals to the goals, expectations and values of the neighborhood steering committee, and the thoughtfully designed outdoor plaza reinforces student camaraderie and a sense of community. It is an urban solution embraced by the community.
The project features five levels of enhanced spaces for studying and recreation, a state-of-the-art living and learning environment with an increased resident capacity. The building offers a two-story lobby space with lounge areas on the first and third floors to support activity and camaraderie. Each floor offers two, three and four bedroom sleeping rooms with resident assistant accommodations. Large shower/bathroom areas were designed with flexibility in order to accommodate co-ed residents on each floor. A single unisex shower/bathroom also supports an additional level of privacy and choice. The lower level includes a study room, conference room and a large multipurpose room that fosters a variety of social activities.
