LynxConnect is a visionary learning environment for CU Denver students, offering a one-stop shop for student resources and individualized support surrounding career opportunities and experiences outside the classroom by housing four university departments; Career Center, Experiential Learning Center (ELC), Global Education: Study Abroad, and Undergraduate Research. The adaptive reuse of the third and fourth levels, of the old theater in the historic Tivoli Student Union, is now home to an open collaborative space supporting students with the basic principle to “truly connect people”. When the space was selected there was theaters with seating intact, a concession counter, ad hoc offices, facility meeting space, and storage. The original windows that had been an exterior feature but were covered on the inside were revealed to flood the space with natural light. The existing mezzanine was increased in size to create additional square footage providing more usable space. The mezzanine also presented an opportunity to feature the “Sky Box”, a floating glass conference room. The new lobby can house receptions or presentations and connects multiple levels via stairs and bleacher seating. The extensive use of glass within the space creates visual connectivity, transparency and an inviting environment for learning and conducting business.
