Welch College’s desire to relocate its campus from Nashville to Gallatin, Tennessee was to create a new yet formal and traditional campus, true to the heritage of the College. Phase One of the new 66-acre campus is designed as a formal quad setting featuring two and three-story red-brick buildings accented by white columns and other traditional architectural details. The classic design is influenced by the precedents of Jefferson and Colonial American architecture.
The entry drive leads to Coffman Hall, the heartbeat of the College. The building houses the administration offices, academic classrooms, laboratories, student commons and the President’s Office. These spaces encircle the 2-story Library which overlooks the Quad. The Library houses 70,000 volumes as well as state of the art technology providing resources and information for students.
Celorio Hall resides on the west side of the Quad. This building is designed to accommodate everyday campus life and special events like musical concerts, recitals and dramatic presentations. The two-story design includes the Dining Hall and Kitchen, a full working stage the Music Department, a Mezzanine Parlor and the President’s Private Dining Room.
The co-ed campus offers separate living quarters for students with full amenities. Each Residence Hall embraces the quad on both sides of the Administration Building and Library. Foot traffic, recreation and fellowship energize the Quad. Students enjoy the variety of competitive and intramural sports offered through the Student Activities Center, including men/women’s basketball, volleyball, and the fitness center. The Center also includes a Game Room and Coffee Shop.
The new campus positions the College for increased enrollment and provides each student not only a top ranked education but a full and engaging student life experience.
Due to the aggressive schedule, all five buildings were designed and constructed simultaneously in order to celebrate the College’s 75th anniversary in the Spring of 2017.
