PROJECT NARRARTIVE
Originally built in 1959, the new Alsup Elementary School delivers a fresh, innovative, and imaginative new learning environment for 600 students. The 76,000 SF CHPS-Verified Project’s foremost goal was to preserve its tight-knit family atmosphere and embody the theme of ‘community’.
A variety of sizes and types of flexible learning spaces allow each learner to thrive in the environments in which they learn best. Alsup is student-focused, individualized, future-ready, flexible, welcoming, and supports the community as a resource.
The facility provides natural light and delivers flexible and diverse teaching environments. The ECE is separate from the rest of the building while in close proximity to the main entry. Specials are grouped together and learning labs are centrally located within each learning suite, which are organized by grade. Grades K, 1, and 2 are grouped together; grades 3, 4, and 5 are grouped together.
Landscape and site elements echo architectural components of the new school building, reflect the surrounding environment, and compliment the community’s identity. Alsup serves as a hub for it’s community, inside and outside the school. The school incorporates high performance design strategies and warm, contemporary, sustainable building materials.
