PROJECT NARRARTIVE
This multi-use theater features performance and rehearsal space for musical theater, Broadway level productions, opera, dance, orchestra and choral music performances, as well as special events. It includes a 1700 seat main auditorium, two recital halls and a grand lobby.
The main auditorium features a full fly tower, wing space, orchestra pit, two fore-stage lifts, a trap room
and broadcast capabilities. Behind the scenes are dressing rooms, a Green Room, rehearsal space, catering facilities, and support and storage spaces. Combined, the two recital halls and the grand lobby can transform into a 900 seat banquet hall.
Challenges to this site included its more than 60 feet of grade change from Belmont Boulevard on the west side of the site to Bernard Avenue at the east side of the site. Logically oriented toward the main artery at the lower end of the site was the main façade and lobby entries. However, the grade also required that access to the loading dock be oriented toward the front of the building. This was addressed by shifting the dock back from the main road and concealing it gracefully with a palatial wall and beautifully crafted iron gates.
