PROJECT NARRARTIVE
Prospect Schools invited Loci Architecture to design their new central offices that serve the administrative needs for the organization’s charter schools across Brooklyn. The design concept was based on the school’s philosophy as a branching ecosystem of learning - and a nod to Betty Smith’s famous novel, “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.” The offices are the proverbial treehouse nestled into the school branches scattered across the borough, providing support and leadership for the entire school community.
Lighting, new millwork, and graphics enhance the work area to best serve the occupants while creating an aesthetically pleasing environment. Light fixtures are integrated with acoustical panels to mitigate the height difference between two open work areas. The light fixtures include sensors that adapt the fixtures’ illumination to changing daylight levels. The new millwork gently separates the front office/reception area from the workstations yet is detailed to be warm and inviting with an open geometry that unifies the entire office suite.
