PROJECT NARRARTIVE
The re-visioning of Alamo Heights High School’s historic campus included a significant reworking of the campus heart with three new facilities: the STEM Building, the Student Commons and the Athletics Complex.
The new STEM Building casts a new vision for the 70-year-old campus. The program includes a specialty rocketry lab, maker spaces / collaborative areas, STEM classrooms and teacher prep areas. Easy connections to the outdoor shaded spaces allow students to take their work outside.
Flexibility is inherent in the facility’s design. The open plan and regular structural layout allow for collaborative areas to be transformed into teaching spaces or labs to meet the future needs of the program. The ability to adapt to new curriculum prolong the life and usefulness of the STEM Building.
The STEM program for the District was developed in partnership with the community. Teachers, business partners and parents met for planning and visioning sessions to craft the STEM path at the district. Community partners invested in the process, supporting the programs by consulting on lab layout and donating equipment. STEM lab and collaborative areas open to the campus to show student collaboration and celebrate the STEM projects.
