Bryan Adams High School first opened its doors to 800 students in 1957. BRW Architects partnered with Dallas ISD to redesign the historic school, now home to over 2000 students, into a cohesive campus that exudes a fresh sense of identity which pays tribute to the school’s history and local heritage while providing distinct opportunities for students to thrive through public education with universal access to tech-integrated labs, performance spaces, and redesigned fully accessible sports facilities.
A new entry plaza provides proud, focused street visibility and moments of modern geometric shapes in concert with mid-century elements that express the school’s dynamic spirit at play with the past, present, and future. Five additions (Performing Arts, Athletics, Classroom and Administration) round the campus and open space for SPED classrooms, nooks for small groups, and makerspaces supporting STEM and vocational learning. Specific attention to acoustics throughout the building allows an environment conducive to concentration and comfort for diverse dispositions and learning styles. Warmth and daylight flood in through windows that provide clear sight lines and expanded views of old-growth oaks and rolling fields. Clearly marked wayfinding signs incorporate opportunities to share school spirit and history, while safely guiding students throughout the campus.
