Corpus Christi ISD tasked Gignac + PBK to design a state-of-the-art high school to replace an existing aging school that has been an integral part of the mostly Hispanic community for over 65 years. The goals included a modern building that the alumni could appreciate and to allow the local students and community to learn how to grow together. This new 418,000 sq. ft. high school is equipped with collaboration spaces where instructors have the flexibility to take students out of traditional teaching spaces and into common areas big enough to have multiple groups, decked out with sleek furniture, white boards and mobile smartboards. Another interesting feature includes a fully enclosed campus which makes it a lot safer as the previous school was an outdoor wing campus where students passed between buildings throughout the day making it vulnerable to the elements. This new campus has also allowed for new programs including various CTE labs, maritime classes, and medical/dental courses.
