The WER team worked closely with the newly created Jacksonville North Pulaski School District to develop a district wide master plan to meet the growing educational needs of the Jacksonville community. The plan called for a new site for the High School, leaving a vacant site that was central to the community available. The size of the site allowed for a new campus featuring both a Middle and Elementary School. The new schools were designed to complement and share functions, but operate independently.
The new Jacksonville Elementary School was designed to bring two elementary schools together in a new building. It has a dedicated kindergarten wing with their own indoor PE area and access to separate playgrounds outside. Jacksonville Elementary also has a hardened dining room which provides shelter during severe storm events for the entire school population.
The new Middle School is organized as two classroom wings, with shared functions on two floors in the center, looking out to a courtyard where students can spill over during lunch for outdoor gathering, all the while being in an easily monitored space. The Middle School gymnasium was designed to be utilized both during and after hours for school and community events.
