Miami Dade College wished to create a flexible, state-of-the-art new home for their health sciences and nursing programs. The new Center for Learning, Innovation and Simulation provides a safe environment for students to learn in a team-based model as they prepare to become the next generation of healthcare providers. The $68 million,135,000 SF facility defines a new, striking image for the entire medical campus.
Designed to foster interdisciplinary experiences between professions while also providing an identity for each of the programs, students are encouraged and welcomed throughout the building to gain exposure to the various programs. Active learning classrooms, lecture classrooms, and an auditorium provide the College with a wide offering of spaces to accommodate various teaching styles and community events. An entire floor is dedicated to medical simulation to recreate medical scenarios, helping reduce errors, improve safety, and elevate the quality of patient care as students enter the workforce. Wet labs, physical therapy/occupational therapy labs, radiology suite, and student study spaces are also included.
The building has allowed for the expansion of some of the College’s most in-demand programs.
