The west staff entrance pays homage to the historic 1927 original high school building with the main entrance façade’s stately presence in the neighborhood.

Entering the welcoming and secure main entrance, one is greeted with a sophisticated, yet calming vibe of warm colors, natural light, and visual transparency.

Environmental graphics throughout the building help generate feelings of school and community pride while each learning community/grade level features a unique theme.

The spacious cafeteria provides a variety of seating options to be used during lunch, study time, or group activities.

The two-tiered cafeteria sits at the center of the building and connects to the outdoors with natural light and additional seating outside.

Communities were designed each with four teams equipped with flexible learning spaces, collaboration areas, mobile furnishings, and presentation stations.

Whether students are engaged in collaboration, independent study, or need to unwind, options are presented with various group areas, seating niches, and quiet areas.

As a takeaway from the district’s education visioning with Frank Locker, every classroom, hallway, and common space was designed to facilitate learning.

Three art studios feature garage doors that open to outdoor patios as well as transparent display cases where students can view artwork from the hallway.

Classrooms feature garage doors that open into extended collaboration areas where technology and versatile furniture allow for various styles of teaching and learning.

Hudson Middle School sits near the heart of the City of Hudson, Ohio. While possessing a traditional outward appearance reminiscent of the community, the interior offers a flexible, nurturing environment in a student-centered learning educational model to foster life-long learning.
Upon entering the lobby, one is greeted with a sophisticated, calming vibe of warm colors, natural light, and visual transparency. Student communities were designed as flexible learning spaces adaptable for collaboration in a team approach. Student are offered large and small group areas, seating niches, and quiet areas. Inquisitive minds can participate in projects in the Makerspace; drawing or ceramics class in the indoor/outdoor Art Studios; meet up with classmates at outdoor learning spaces; or a project on the roof garden.
The New Hudson Middle School exemplifies community collaboration. The GPD Group design team, residents, students, staff, administrators, and community leaders participated in numerous discussions, allowing the team to regroup and provide creative solutions. The New Hudson Middle School is the outcome of this approach and provides a safe, welcoming environment for our future leaders, creators, and educators. As the lobby graphic states, “You are the reason we are here.”
