To support expanding visual and performing arts programs and free up existing space for other needs, the Catholic Diocese of Charlotte selected Little to design a student experience at Charlotte Catholic High School that would accommodate cultural events for the entire community. Located on CCHS’s 10-acre campus, the MACS Fine Arts Center serves and benefits K-12 students at all nine Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools.
Little engaged teachers to gain a deeper understanding of the space, equipment, and technology requirements for the various programs. To help visualize the design we created computer models, renderings, and videos that were instrumental in successful fundraising efforts. The new center provides a setting that encourages students to develop their talents and creativity, featuring a 600-seat auditorium with a fully equipped working stage, lighting and audio-visual technology, balcony, and exhibit space. This state-of-the-art facility with floor-to-ceiling windows also includes a 2D visual art studio, ceramics studio, digital lab, black box theater, band room, choral room, and dance studio. The daylit spaces provide connections to nature to learn, socialize, and retreat from the rigors of their academic and extracurricular activities. Colored glass in the exterior façade recalls “stained glass” and connections to their Catholic faith.
