The Logan Memorial Educational Campus, TK-12 grades, rebuilds the existing K-8 campus and adds a new high school, the first for Logan Heights, and infant day care center.

A new campus brand identity is integrated into the design including new logos, typology, monument signage, existing and new murals, and custom ornamental metal works.

Each of the eight exterior building art panels abstractly represent one of the school’s core concepts: community, compassion, creativity, growth, leadership, collaborate, inspire and innovate.

The building forms are simple, bold and influenced by Mexican modernism. Resulting in architecture that fits the neighborhood and builds on the rich cultural history of the area.

The design solution is a result of seven public community-based meetings that brought together teachers, administrators, and the community.

The two entries that serve 7-8 and 9-12 students are arranged around the campus paseo, connecting the campuses and creating inviting outdoor spaces.

Outdoor spaces are comfortable for students and easy to supervise for administrators.

The quad provides varied seating and shaded areas for students.

Vibrant artwork brands the 9-12 quad building a legacy for the students.

The campus incorporates a Montessori program creating a first of its kind learning experience through TK-12 grades.

TK/K classrooms have direct access to a secured and shaded play area.

The traditional library is re-envisioned as a collaborative learning commons, where students gather, socialize, and showcase their work.

The existing Logan Elementary and Memorial Middle School was rumored to be closing. The first master plan meeting opened with protest signs and news crews. Although the school historically underperformed academically, community members had instilled a sense of pride in their school and wanted to preserve its rich culture. They recognized the need for updated facilities and a new approach to instruction to close the achievement gap. With an open and transparent process, the resulting master plan retains the TK-8 component and transforms the site into a single comprehensive TK-12 campus. It also houses the first high school in Logan Heights’ history, making it a true neighborhood school.
Logan Memorial is a walkable neighborhood learning center with student-focused environments that support hands-on activities, teamwork, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills for learners of all ages. Scattered across campus are maker spaces and design labs with 3D printers, laser cutters, and equipment to prototype and create manufactured work. At the TK-8 Montessori school, students learn and explore at their own pace to become critical thinkers. The new 9-12 school features career pathways in health sciences and design engineering which come together at the center of the building in a large, tiered collaboration space.
