Ocean Township School District had a need to expand their Wellness programs at their High School. As the campus exists, one would get a sense that the community has a strong connection to its athletic program. “Spartan Pride” and red is prevalent throughout the school.

Solutions Architecture designed the Spartans Fitness Center to give the school space to accommodate their expanding athletic programs, health education classrooms, and offices for the athletic department. The addition helps eliminate any programing conflicts during school and extra-curriculars due to only having one gym in the existing school.

The masonry addition is sited to face the athletic fields with a second-floor glass box that rotates out from the main façade to highlight the views of the football field from the Weight Room. Spartan Red is accented throughout the building on the exterior metal roof planes, and within the building to guide users around the spaces. Sunshade louvers and translucent wall panels assist in reducing the heat gain caused by allowing views out from the building to the fields as they are oriented towards the south.

The Spartans Fitness Center displays a community focus on health, nutrition, and wellness education all under one roof.
